The UK government has announced that by September 2021 halogen light bulbs will be banned and fluorescent light bulbs will follow in 2023. This is part of the UK’s plan to reduce energy consumption and meet carbon reduction targets as they predict the shift to LED lighting will reduce CO2 emissions by 1.26 million tonnes.
Many businesses and schools have already started to find it difficult to find halogen light replacements and have realised that getting a replacement is a difficult exercise and LED lighting is the best long term solution. This has left many organisations wondering how they are going to light their buildings going forward and how much this is all going to cost them.
Light on the horizon
It is not all bad news though. Switching to LED lighting will save you money as they use up to 80% less power than their halogen equivalents. They also last up to five times longer than halogen bulbs so you don’t need to change them as frequently and the maintenance costs will be lower in the long term.
With such high savings available it makes LED lighting an attractive proposition but often the upfront cost is a barrier for many organisations. However, you shouldn’t let this stop you as there are options available to help you.
Upgrade your lighting using the saving achieved
One of the most cost-effective options to fund lighting upgrades for schools is an operating lease which will pay for the installation with no upfront cost, there are also funding options available for business. At the moment operating leases are being offered with low-interest rates making it an ideal time to upgrade. What makes this even more attractive is that the savings achieved by the lighting can be used to pay the operating lease repayments. So, in effect, the school is no worse off and maybe cash positive.
As energy prices continue to rise and savings can be made straight away and may be even bigger in the future if energy prices continue to rise, how can you not afford to act now and replace your old and dated halogen lamps? You will also need to do it soon as you won’t be able to source replacement light fittings/lamps.
Act now and get in touch with us to find out more about upgrading your lighting and how an operating lease could help you fund your lighting upgrade.
